Do’s & Don’t

Do’s for PVC laminate installation:

  1. Carefully read and follow the instructions provided by the laminate manufacturer before installing.
  2. Clear the room for at least 48 hours prior to installation to determine the room temperature.
  3. Clean the surface thoroughly and prepare it well before installation.
  4. Use laminate underlayment to ensure proper adhesion to the surface.
  5. Tape the seams of underlayment as you lay the laminate sheet to prevent any gaps.
  6. Leave at least ⅜ inches between the laminate and the wall for expansion.
  7. Stagger rows of planks to create a more natural and authentic look.
  8. Utilize a Universal Installation Kit to help tighten joints and speed up the installation process.
  9. Keep the size of the expansion gap consistent throughout the installation.
  10. Inspect each plank for damage before installation to avoid issues later on.

Don’ts for PVC laminate installation:

  1. Do not install PVC laminate on a floor with a drain.
  2. Avoid installation on an uneven or rough subfloor.
  3. Do not install on a surface that is consistently exposed to dampness or extreme humidity.
  4. Do not install over a residential carpet.
  5. Avoid cutting the laminate during installation.
  6. Do not use a double layer of laminate underlayment as it can separate the planks.
  7. Use a transition for laminate installation through openings less than 48 inches.
  8. Do not cut the back of the laminate sheet as it can damage the decorative layer.
  9. Avoid nailing wall base molding and quarter rounds to the floor.

Things to consider before installing PVC laminate:

  1. Research factors like look, texture, maintenance, cost, and suitability to determine your needs.
  2. Metal or high gloss laminates provide a premium, modern look, while matte laminates have less reflective sheen.
  3. Textured laminate sheets are beautiful and scratch-resistant but are more difficult to clean.
  4. Consider an antibacterial laminate sheet for kitchen installations.
  5. PVC laminates are cost-effective and offer great interior design options.
  6. Consider the durability of the laminate for high-traffic areas.
  7. Check the warranty on the laminate before installation.
  8. Consider the thickness of the laminate for added durability.
  9. Choose a laminate with a high AC rating for increased wear resistance.
  10. Consider the installation method, such as click-lock or glue-down, based on your skill level and the surface.
